Privacy at VibeFinder

A profile exists to do exactly three things:

  1. 1.)Save your preferences.
  2. 2.)Save places you love.
  3. 3.)Help our matcher find spots that fit you.

Here's how we keep that safe.

Our privacy pledge

Privacy isn't a settings page at VibeFinder. It's how the whole thing is built.

  • We never sell your data

Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. The only companies that ever touch it are the ones that help us run VibeFinder, and they can't use it for anything of their own.

  • Your taste isn't tied to your name

Your name and contact details are stored separately from everything about your taste. Answers and saved places live under a random pseudonym that can't identify you.

  • You stay in control

Download everything we hold about you, or delete your account (and every trace of it) anytime, in one tap.

What we store

Your account holds your name, email, and (only if you add them) a phone number and age range. Separately, under a random pseudonym, we store your taste answers, the places you've saved, and your search history: the words you typed, your filters, and up to eight places each search found, kept until you delete it. Guests have none of this, since there is no account to attach it to. That's the whole list for your account. If you switch on text alerts for group plans, we send those texts to that number and use it for nothing else.

What we keep from every search

To fix problems and make matching better, we keep a record of each search made on VibeFinder, by guests and account holders alike: the words typed, the filters, which places came back and the reasons the matcher gave for them. This record is anonymous. It carries no name, no email, no account, no IP address, no device code, and not even the random code above, so nothing in it points back to you. Where a search starts from a location, that point is rounded to about 100 metres. Each record is deleted after 3 months.

How we keep your taste apart from your name

Your taste data never carries your name or email, only a random code. The one table linking that code to your account is locked away from every client and only crossed, briefly, on our servers to show you your own data. A copy of the preference data alone can't be traced back to you.

How personalization works

When you search while signed in, a short anonymous summary of your taste travels with the query so the matcher can break ties your way. Your query always wins. Turn personalization off in settings and your searches behave exactly like a guest's. Group plans work the same way: only the blended group taste is ever used, never one person's.

Optional: anonymized demographic training

Off by default. If you turn it on, your age range (and nothing that identifies you) makes matching better for everyone and feeds the audience stats venues see. Those stats only ever show groups of 5 people or more, never you on your own. Turn it off and it's removed.

The emails we send you

Emails about your account, like the link to confirm your address or reset your password, always come, because the account cannot work without them. News from VibeFinder is different: we only send it if you ticked the box when you signed up or switched it on in your account settings, and every one has a link to stop them. We do not send any news yet, so for now that switch just records your answer.

What businesses can see

Businesses get counts, never people. We record that their place appeared in a search, that it was shown as a pick, that someone clicked through to their website or booking page, saved it, or voted for it in a group. Those records carry no name, no email, no account, no IP address, and not even the random code above. A business sees totals about itself and nothing about you, and what you typed is never shown to one.

When you sign up for an event

Signing up for a venue's event is the one place we ask for your name and email, and it exists for one reason: if the night is cancelled we tell you. A phone number is optional and has its own tick box, and without that box ticked we do not store the number at all. The venue is told how many people are coming, never who. When you show your code at the door they learn it is valid and nothing else. We keep the record until 30 days after the night, and every message we send carries a link that removes it on the spot.

Your rights

Export everything we hold about you as a file, correct it, or erase your account and all its data instantly, from your profile settings, no email to support needed. This is your GDPR right and our default, not a favor.
